Tour the new Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons measuring 550 feet and 32-stories and is the second tallest building in the state!
Designed and built by architectural firm Pickard Chilton, the structure implements best practices in workplace design and engages employees and the city of Milwaukee by creating a high-performance, urban campus.
The Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons is considered Milwaukee’s first significant building of the 21st century and a reflection of the city surrounding it. The massive project, containing 1.1 million square feet in total area, has made this building the largest volume of space under one roof in the entire state.
At the heart of the project is the Commons, which creates a cohesive and organized campus. This section of the building is 3 stories tall and 2 blocks long, and designed using natural light and open space. This public portion of the building provides a visitors center, training facilities, meeting spaces, dining, and terraces overlooking their enchanted gardens. The Northwestern Mutual Gardens include a 4.6-acre green area featuring gardens, trees, tables, benches, and walkways. Nestled in the historic 1914 headquarters, a skylit atrium knits together the old with the new. Skywalks connect the Commons to Northwestern Mutual’s Mason and Van Buren Street office buildings.
