Beautifully decorated schoolrooms today probably involve laminated posters, upcycled organization units, and if you make the time, colorful window hangings. In the 1920s and 30s, however, many school were built with inspiring accessories such as handmade art tile. From drinking fountain alcoves, murals, and even fireplaces, schools around Milwaukee were installing this fascinating tile in their rooms and hallways. Tile craftsman and Art teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools, Ben Tyjeski, will share his exploration of tile and how he is introducing tile-making to the students.
