About the Building

The Lawrence Block, a group investment led by Judah Lawrence, was a four-story speculative retail and loft manufacturing space with seven storefronts. The 1868 cream city brick building was designed in the Italianate style but the original mansard roof was removed in the 1890s and rebuilt to rematch the lower floors. Tenants included crockery merchants, garment manufacturers, milliners, notions, furs and more. The Guesthouse is a newly renovated 31-room hotel, designed by Vetter Architects and built by Pepper Construction, with communal spaces and shared kitchen on each floor of guest rooms.
