Tour a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Shorewood @ 2 pm

This is a rare opportunity to experience an historic and well-preserved Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home that has been a private residence in Shorewood for 104 years. This home was the last completed American System-Built Home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Guests will be invited to tour this Wright-designed Elizabeth Murphy House with homeowner and Art Educator Angela Hayes. In addition to the tour, enjoy a presentation by author Nicholas Hayes featuring Wright’s plans and drawings and stories of the tumultuous ending of the American System-Built Home program. The presentation will unpack the lawsuits and cover-ups during construction that helped to launch the career of Russell Barr Williamson, Wright’s assistant, who became one of Shorewood’s most influential and prolific designers.  Although Wright began work on his American System-Built Homes (ASBH, 1911–17) with great energy, the project fell apart following wartime shortages and disputes between the architect and his developer. While continuing to advocate for the design of affordable small homes, Wright never spoke publicly of ASBH. As a result, the heritage of many Wright-designed homes was forgotten.
