August 3 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Explore Milwaukee’s historic architecture downtown by delving into the story of architectural terra cotta, or baked earth, installed on many of the city’s most notable landmarks. This relaxing walk will highlight how plastic clay was modeled, pressed, and fired in kilns to decorate 30 some buildings within one mile. You will learn how this fascinating building material exhibits the city’s history as well. Tour is led by handmade tile artist and historian Ben Tyjeski, author of the Architectural Terra Cotta of Milwaukee County.
