Frederick Law Olmsted’s Influence on Milwaukee’s Public Landscapes with Virginia Small

This program is free – see Zoom information below.
Frederick Law Olmsted, considered the father of American landscape architecture, played a significant role in envisioning Milwaukee’s early public parks and other urban planning. This presentation will highlight Olmsted’s contributions, which included helping to select early park sites, designing Lake, Riverside and Washington parks, promoting the concept of a linked park-and-parkway “system,” and urging Milwaukee to route streetcars to parks to make green spaces accessible to all. Learn why Olmsted is celebrated, on the 200th Centennial of his birth, for “Designing America,” which includes his enduring legacies in Milwaukee.
Virginia Small, an award-winning journalist and author, has been writing and speaking about landscapes and environmental issues for more than 25 years.
