Designed by Patrick Jones in 2016, this modern home was built for the current owner, who did the interior design work himself. The owner is a long-time resident who searched for seven years to find just the right spot for his house.
The interior of the home continues the modern take on the exterior with an open floor plan featuring a two story atrium. The home is filled with family heirlooms, primitive artisan pieces and artwork done by a variety of young and upcoming artists. This two story home includes a kitchen with breakfast bar, a living room/dining room and bath on the first floor with an office, bedroom and bath on the second floor. The addition of a patio and greenhouse make this home an oasis in the city.
The lot originally had a house on the rear portion next to the alley, which was demolished in the mid-1990s. That house was reminiscent of others in the neighborhood. It was long owned and occupied by the Breksa family, many of whom worked for the Western Leather Company, located in an Edward Townsend Mix building on E. Clybourn Street, near the Mackie Building.
