Building Description
This historic church campus is home to both a vibrant faith community and several nonprofit organizations, including La Familia de Arte, a community art studio dedicated to celebrating Latino arts heritage and creating meaningful change through collaborative, community-based public artwork. Visitors are invited to explore the studio space and learn how art is used as a tool for connection, storytelling, and neighborhood engagement.
The church campus includes three distinct buildings: the original 1923 structure, which houses the historic sanctuary; an educational south wing built in 1952 with Collegiate Gothic influences; and a Mid-Century Modern social outreach wing completed in 1967. Today, the 1952 and 1967 additions provide space for several nonprofit organizations working to support the community, including La Familia de Arte and other local service organizations. The original church entrance was closed during later renovations and the main entrance is now located on the north side of the building.
Visitor Experience
During Doors Open Milwaukee, visitors can explore both the historic church campus and La Familia de Arte’s creative space, where they can participate in a hands-on activity creating beaded medallions inspired by Latino art traditions to take home.
