St. George Melkite-Greek Catholic Church

Constructed with Milwaukee Cream City brick and crowned with three bulbous onion domes St. George Church was constructed 100 years ago for worship by Wisconsin’s Middle-Eastern Christian congregation. Architect Erhard Brielmaier created a design that fit into the Milwaukee landscape while reflecting the community’s Lebanese and Syrian founding families. After 50 years behind pasteboard the ceiling was lovingly restored with the labor of parishioners and friends. Originally tucked mid-way into the block St. George now stands alone as a witness to the continuing vitality of Eastern Christianity in the Midwest.
