All Saints’ Cathedral, one of the first Episcopal cathedrals in the nation, is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The church, along with two additional buildings, is in a landscaped complex in Yankee Hill, a prestigious neighborhood in Milwaukee’s history.

The Gothic Revival church was designed in 1868 by Milwaukee architect Edward Townsend Mix. In 1891 the congregation erected a second large building designed by William D. Kimball. It housed the Cathedral Institute which was a school for young children, and the Guild Hall used for parish gatherings and offices. For several years it also was a residence for Episcopal nuns. In 1902, Kirchoff and Rose designed Nicholson House which completed the complex. Intended as the Bishop’s residence, it is a three-story modified Jacobean style building that now serves as offices for the Episcopal diocese of Milwaukee Another focal point of the complex is the two-hundred-foot-tall cathedral tower and spire with an original bell cast in 1867. Five additional bells were installed in 2007 and ring daily in memory of those who perished in the September 11, 2001, attack,

Doors Open visitors will view the interiors of all three buildings. Historic photos and an informative video will Illustrate the architectural and decorative changes made during the last 150 years.
