Building Description

Built by Edward Townsend Mix in 1875 for Dr. Henry Harrison Button, the Button Mansion is one of Milwaukee’s last standing Italian-style villas. It now houses the David Barnett Gallery, Wisconsin’s longest standing art gallery, housing over 6,000 artworks from all over the globe. The David Barnett Gallery is Wisconsin’s premier gallery with the broadest range of art available in the region, including works of art that represent more than 600 artists. The gallery specializes in European and American masters, regional and nationally recognized artists and emerging artists. Also represented are artworks from Latin America and Asia, as well as Ethnographic art from Africa, Indonesia, and Oceania. The gallery has a national reputation for its extensive collection of Picasso ceramics and Milton Avery oil paintings. The David Barnett Gallery also provides professional art consultations, appraisals, restoration and conservation, custom framing, lighting, custom giclée printing, delivery, and installation services.
