In December 2019, GRAEF moved its corporate headquarters to The Avenue, formerly the Shops of Grand Avenue.
GRAEF’s new office is situated within the major redevelopment of the former mall that now includes housing, office spaces, a food hall, and other tenant amenities. GRAEF occupies 35,000 square feet of the third floor, which was previously the mall’s food court. The new office suite features renovated skylights that had been a main design element of the mall, 30-foot high ceilings in parts of the office, a mezzanine, an interior balcony that opens to the future 3rd Street Market Hall and a patio overlooking Wisconsin Avenue. The office has a modern and inviting vibe that gives a preview of who GRAEF is as a company. It brings our company’s almost 60-year heritage to life while emphasizing the value and commitment that we show our staff and clients. The upbeat and fun design includes artwork by local artists, and employees. Employees enjoy a collaborative work environment with open workstations, flexible meeting spaces, and two large kitchens with ample seating options. Through its lifetime, Grand Avenue has played a significant role in the livelihood of downtown Milwaukee. When it opened as a mall in 1982, it stood as a cultural destination drawing in visitors from the Milwaukee suburbs and beyond. Since the mall’s decline, the building has experienced its share of transformations and adaptations, but the most recent redevelopment offers a promising future for the building and neighborhood, serving as a major catalyst in the revitalization of Westown.
