The MIAD Gallery at the Ave is a great place to experience the work of artists and designers from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design community.

The gallery hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, including solo shows, group shows, and student exhibitions. The gallery also offers educational programs and special events, such as artist talks and workshops. As a participant of Doors Open Milwaukee, we welcome you to view our uniquely small storage room where we hold artwork, spare chairs, and miscellaneous odds and ends!

The Matthews Building, also now known as The Avenue, was built in 1892 and is one of the few remaining buildings from the original Grand Avenue mall. The gallery is housed in a 2,500-square-foot, street-level space that was previously used by an OfficeMax store. The building also was home to a Woolworth’s store between 1912 and 1994. The Matthews Building features a terracotta facade and beautiful decorative metalwork. The building is also home to a number of other businesses, including 3rd Street Market Hall, a bustling food hall with over 20 vendors.
