Mount Olive Lutheran Church

Mount Olive Lutheran Church is one of the largest of a type of Gothic Revival church design that was popular from about 1905 through the 1920’s and was designed by Kirchhoff and Rose, who were mainly known for their theater designs including the Riverside Theater here in Milwaukee and the Palace Theater on Broadway in New York.

The current sanctuary was built in 1923. The adjoining Mount Olive Christian Day School was completed in 1951. Along with the striking exterior design, the interior features stained-glass windows surrounding examples of intricate woodworking spanning over 100 years. The window above the altar was installed using Tiffany glass. The other windows are an example of “Munich-Stained glass”. In 2013-2014, the church went under a major renovation replacing the “blonde wood” installed in the 1950’s bringing the chancel into stylistic conformity with the rest of the sanctuary. The most recent renovation took place in 2024 when the church underwent another major renovation project repairing and painting the interior of the church, improving the choir loft space, and retrofitting the original light fixtures with LED lighting.
