Formerly a Transpak Crane Bay building, Next Act Theatre now features a well-equipped and intimate thrust theatre with 152 seats.

Administrative and ticket offices are on-site as is the production area which features the rehearsal hall, dressing rooms, green room and costume shop. The space is fully accessible including a state-of-the-art hearing loop system.
Next Act Theatre was founded in 1990 upon the merger of two former professional theatres. Next Act’s mission is to engage the hearts and minds of audiences with compelling and intimate theatre productions intended to stimulate thought, foster the exchange of ideas and promote the development of new perspectives and understanding. The space at 255 S. Water St., designed by Quorum Architects and completed in 2011, houses Next Act’s four plays each season, which combine a healthy mix of timely topics and new and contemporary works. Next Act Theatre also hosts Renaissance Theaterworks, which produces an annual three-play season of “theatre by women, for everyone” in the space. Since 2011, the space has played host to more than 50 theatrical productions from Next Act, Renaissance and a host of independent producers.
Enjoy a look “behind the curtain” at Next Act Theatre! Join them on a guided tour of not only the lobby space, but also the theatre and a number of backstage areas. Get a perspective on live theatre not usually enjoyed by members of the public.
As a special bonus, Next Act is in the midst of the inaugural production of its 2023-24 season, SPLASH HATCH ON THE E GOING DOWN by Kia Corthron. Learn more about the play, tour the set (including a peek backstage) and get a sense of how a play comes to life in their space.
