Building Description
Strange Scene is a theatrical metaphysical shop, artist collective, and creative gathering space in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. Inspired by the wonder of curiosity and the history of divination, the shop blends handcrafted goods, contemporary artwork, books, plants, and ritual tools into an immersive environment designed to spark exploration and conversation.
Visitors are invited to wander through thoughtfully designed spaces, including Madam Strange’s astrology study, pet snake Monty the Python, and the “Behind the Scenes” studio where some of Strange Scene’s products are made.
Whether guests are longtime practitioners or simply curious, Strange Scene encourages visitors to engage with the cultural history, artistic traditions, and creative practices surrounding the metaphysical arts in an approachable and welcoming atmosphere.
Visitor Experience
Visitors are invited to explore Strange Scene through a self-guided experience that offers a rare look behind the scenes of a working artist’s studio. During Doors Open Milwaukee, the studio where Strange Scene’s original products are designed and handcrafted will be open to the public.
On the hour, every hour, Maggie Sasso, creator of Strange Scene and the artist behind Madam Strange, will present a 20-minute artist talk exploring the inspiration behind the shop, the creative process, and how theater, folklore, astrology, tarot, and traditional craftsmanship come together to create Strange Scene’s immersive world.
Guests are welcome to browse the shop before and after each presentation, ask questions, and experience the creativity and craftsmanship that make Strange Scene a one-of-a-kind destination in Milwaukee.
