The Lubar Entrepreneurship Center (LEC) and UWM Welcome Center serve as the front door of UWM for potential new students and the hub of entrepreneurial thinking.

The Lubar Entrepreneurship Center (LEC) and UWM Welcome Center are housed two-story, 24,000 sq. ft. facility at the corner of Kenwood Blvd. and Maryland Avenue. The prominent location is intended to serve as a gateway to the UWM campus. The building was designed by Continuum Architects + Planners completed in 2019. The grand opening welcomed dignitaries from the Milwaukee community and the state, including the Lubar family and other donors whose generous support is helping catalyze entrepreneurship at UWM. In August 2020, the building was recognized with Milwaukee Business Journal Real Estate Award for Best New Development – Office. Programming in the LEC is designed to engage UWM Students and faculty across disciplines – giving them skills in innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking to enhance their success. Prominent features and spaces include: – Co-Working and Collaboration – allowing students, business leaders, and entrepreneurs to meet informally to share ideas in a collaborative environment; – Flexible Instruction – providing a home for “Ideas Challenge Courses” that accommodates experiential and engaged learning through entrepreneurship; – Innovation Labs and “Maker” Spaces – providing resources for students to experiment and to prototype products and software; – Touchdown and Launch Space – providing a home for student entrepreneurs, faculty, community business partners, and others to work on building new enterprises; and – The Grind Coffee Shop – welcomes visitors at the West entrance providing space for gathering and refueling. 2.
