Building Description

UWM’s Biological Sciences Department maintains a greenhouse on the roof of the NWQ Complex. The facility was designed by Flad Architects, and built by United Greenhouse Systems. The instructional collection of 670 plant species representing over 110 plant families provides students with a hands-on, dynamic classroom environment and furthers academic research supporting over 1800 students and 1200+ visitors annually. Many specimens are rare in cultivation or endangered in the wild.

Visitor Experience

Visit the UWM Bio Sci Greenhouse and immerse yourself in a self-guided tour exploring the diversity of plant shapes & adaptations or try your luck at the economic botany scavenger hunt. Enjoy many microscopic and video demonstrations showing you an unique perspective into plants. After visiting our collection, learn about UWM’s cutting-edge NSF and USDA funded research.
