Building Description

The UWM Student Union is the center of campus life, with approximately 1.7 million visitors per year. Freshly renovated in 2023 to enhance spaces with natural light and modernize its look, the UWM Student Union builds community, relationships and memories. It’s a place for dining, gathering, recreation, support services and events.

Visitor Experience

Take a historical journey through 70 years, six renovations, and generations of student interactions that shape our purpose, our community and our building. See how this facility has expanded from a 15,000-square-foot cafeteria and bookstore that supported a student population of 1,500 to become a 350,000-square-foot campus retail destination, community center and student services hub. Tours will last 30-45 minutes and cover all five floors of the third-largest student union in the United States (as measured by square footage) and one of Wisconsin’s busiest state buildings.
